First Reconciliation & First Eucharist
Youth Sacrament programs are two-year programs at St. Mary’s. Children preparing for First Communion will also prepare to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation before receiving First Communion. The first year of preparation begins in 1st Grade and continues into 2nd grade.
Children who are older than first grade also participate in a two year program.
According to the teachings of our faith and baptismal promises, parents are the primary teachers of the faith for their children. Parents are required to attend two parent meetings, one of First Reconciliation and one on First Eucharist. These meetings prepare parents for the awe inspiring responsibility to teach their children about the sacraments. The Youth Faith Formation classes assist and reinforce for the students what is being taught on a formal basis by their parents or guardians.
Confirmation is open to all High School teens under the age of 18. Confirmation is also a two-year program beginning in 8th grade. In the second year of preparation, typically 9th grade, every Candidate (teen) and their parent(s) meet with the Director of Youth Faith Formation to understand what their roles and responsibilities are and get a preview of the program. The preparation classes in the second year are held only monthly between the months of Sept. and May. Every teen must select one sponsor to journey through the discernment process towards Confirmation.
Children ages 6 and younger should be baptized in order to receive any additional sacraments. Please contact the administrative office for information about baptism preparation.
The parish offers a Rite of Christian Initiation for Children for students who are 7 years or older. This preparation is also a two-year sacrament preparation program. Please contact the Director of Youth Faith Formation for additional information.
