Niños on Skis

Niños on Skis is a cultural program offered as an extension of the work of St. Mary's. We love to ski and we have children who want to learn. The children of our immigrant families often desire to ski but lack the resources to make it happen. The Niños program pairs elementary school children with American families who are committed to teaching them to ski. The program is made possible through the strong support of Park City Mountain Resort, Aloha Skis, St. Lawrence Thrift Store, Holy Cross Ministries and St. Mary's parish,

Sponsor families assist the children in obtaining the season passes (provided by Park City Mountain Resort), getting their ski outfits (provided by St. Lawrence Thrift Store), and ski equipment (provided by Aloha skis). Sponsors pick up the children and bring them to the mountain for their three lessons (provided by the most excellent instructors of Park City Mountain Resort) and continue to ski with them whenever feasible throughout the season, developing through the process lasting friendships with an immigrant family.  The children all speak English, but that's not always the case with their parents. And so we learn through our children that language is not a barrier.

Sponsors are required to have their own season pass at Park City Mountain Resort, and a willingness to spend time teaching a small child the joy of skiing.  Everything else is provided - including the fun.
