"THREE BEAUTIES" WITH MARY CATHERINE LEVRI

MAY 29 AT 6:30 PM | ST. MARY'S
As Catholic Christians, we believe that Creation is sacramental: everything that is created is a sign of the greater, invisible reality of the divine. At the pinnacle of Creation is the human person, whom God the Father made in imago Dei — in the image and likeness of Himself. The human person, then, is the Father's greatest work of Art, and there is nothing more glorious (or beautiful) than the fully alive person - the human being at worship. The art that Catholics bring to worship — paintings, sculpture, church architecture, and in particular, sacred music — imitates the beauty of the imago Dei, and in this sense, sacred art is always at the service of both God and the human person. In this lecture, we will explore the interplay of three beauties: the beauty of God, the beauty of the human person, and the beauty of sacred art. We will contemplate the ways in which God uses Beauty to draw humankind to Himself, most especially in the celebration of the Eucharist. We will come to see Beauty as God's "love language": the means by which He communicates His affectionate love to the human family. Please RSVP HERE.
