ST. LAWRENCE MISSION BUILDING

With the booming population in the Heber Valley as well as the growth at St. Lawrence, we are in the process of pursuing building a new St. Lawrence Church. Please download our latest one-pager for more detailed information. Below are some FAQs to help understand where we are in the process and next steps:

Q: What is the estimated cost to build the new church?
A: Our goal is to raise $14 million to cover the cost of permits, construction, and inflation.

Q: How many people will the new church accommodate?
A: Right now, our goal is to build a church that can accommodate 600 people and classrooms for about 150.

Q: Where will the new church be located?
A: The new church will be located on at the corner of Mill Dr. and 980 S. (down the street from Timpanogos Middle School and Old Mill Elementary School. This is a 6 acre plot of land that is already owned by the church. It is across the street from the rectory. See map.

Q: When will the new church be built?
A: The bottom line is that we cannot start building until we have raised 100% of the funds.

Q: Where are we at in the building process?
A: We started at the end of 2024 with a feasibility study followed by a proposal to the Bishop. The Bishop has advised us to continue the process, and now we are preparing to submit a formal proposal. The proposal will include an estimated timeline for fundraising as well as initial building schematics.

Q: What is the process for working with the Diocese?
A: The Diocese has a very detailed and formal process for building new churches. It is imperative that we follow this process closely. The Diocese Construction Manual can be found here.

Q: Who is leading the project?
A: As pastor, Fr. Dass has been appointed by Bishop Solis to head the entire building project. He along with our former pastor Fr. Gray formed a building committee that has started this process and will serve as the primary point of contact with the Diocese. The building committee is made up of parishioners from St. Mary's and St. Lawrence. Fr. Dass and the Building Committee will also be selecting volunteers to serve on sub-committees in the near future. To submit your interest in serving on a sub-committee, please fill out this form.

Q: How much is in our current building fund?
A: We currently have a little less than $1 million in our building fund.

Q: Is our building fund being used for other projects in our current church?
A: No. All of the projects in our church (painting, new flooring in the St. Joseph's room, new sound system, etc.) have either been paid for by donations or through the St. Lawrence Thrift Store. The Building Fund will only be used for work related to building a new church.

Q: Will St. Lawrence remain a mission or become its own parish?

A: The Bishop has been explicitly clear that St. Lawrence will remain a mission under St. Mary’s parish for the foreseeable future. This is something that is solely at discretion of the diocese.

Q: Is there consideration for building a Catholic School?
A: Not at this time. The 2024 Meitler Study commissioned by the Diocese said that while the Heber Valley could support a new church building. It couldn't support a Catholic school.

Q:Will this be one building or two buildings like St. Mary's ?
A: To be determined.
